The long weekend

Us lucky mortals were graced with a long weekend last week. Four days off. A golden opportunity to leave the city. I was very excited. My friends and I, after much discussion and contemplation decided to go to Goa. Again. Everything had been decided and some them said they couldn’t make it to Goa. So we decided to go to a small place about 35 kms from Alibag called ‘Kashid’. It’s a beach too. So we decided if we had to be in the heat, we may as well do it closer home.

We were to leave early Friday morning, which we did. Took a train from Andheri to Churchgate. We were to take a ferry from the dock at Gateway of India. First we had to stand in an extremely long line to buy tickets for the ferry. The counter shut as soon as we reached it. So we had to stand in another line. Then we stood in line to get onto the ferry. We missed the 8 o’clock ferry and got onto another one. But not before we stood in line for almost 1 hr in the hot sun. We stood in line and made fun of almost everyone around. That’s how we pass our time. By revelling in the drawbacks of others.

We got onto the ferry and five minutes into the sea, we were hit hard by another boat. That was scary. I could almost hear everyone’s knocking knees. We weren’t too far from the shore but it was scary nonetheless. After some fighting and grumbling from some other people, we progressed. The ferry was so damn slow! If I could walk on water, I’d have walked faster.

After we reached the other side, we took a rickshaw to  ‘Kashid’. What a long ride. It seemed like it would never end.  But it did end. We finally reached tired, parched and sun burnt and my friend found that moment to tell us our hotel was at an uphill climb. My eyes almost fell out of their sockets. Climb!! Me!! In the Sun!!! No Way!!!

We got really high after that. Had lunch. Went to sleep and then went to the beach. What a beautiful beach. We played in the water. Mind you the water is really salty. I was full of it. In the night we told horror stories (as is the case with most groups that go out of town) and scared ourselves silly.

The next day at the beach, we saw giant jellyfish. they were all over. All washed ashore. This meant the water was dangerous, but we still took a dip.

I wanted to touch the jellyfish but was too chicken. What if had poison? Or worse, what if lashed its tentacle at me?

It was dead.

    Nice post…
Even I had been to Kashid a few years back…. and spent hours playing in the sea.. even lying down and sitting in the water :-)

But, now when I see the jellyfish picture, I am really horrified…

    I guess, ignorance is surely a bliss…
